Floating Pond Plants For Your Pond

Floating Pond Plants are some of the most important pond plants you can purchase for your pond. Floating pond plants are nutrient sponges that use up fish waste as a food source helping to starve off algae in your pond. They are so powerful at naturaly filtering water that back in the 1970's waste water treatment plants down south used water hyacinth as a pre-filter to the water entering the water treatment plant. Floating  pond plants also provide shade and protection for your fish keeping them safe and happy.

Water Hyacinth are very aggressive pond plants and in our climate here in the U.S. that can be a good thing.

Water Hyacinth and can absorb huge amounts of excess nutrients from pond water, resulting in a clearer, healthier pond. Their fast growth also helps to shade the pond, which helps in several ways. More shade equals less algae growth. The extra coverage gives a refuge to fish being scared by predators and the huge floating roots give a hiding place to baby fish.

Water Hyacinth are tropical and should be tossed into the compost or the trash at the end of the season. They are next to impossible to over-winter so they are treated as a pond annual in our climate.

Water Hyacinth should be controlled so they do not cover the entire pond. 50-70% coverage is ideal.
