How Many Snails Should I Purchase? The amount of snails you will need depends on the size of your pond. The minimum amount we recommend is 25 this is the perfect number for ponds with a surface area of 6 x 6 to 8 x 11 larger pond's 11 x 11 to 11 x 16 would need around 50 snails to have a positive effect on algae growth. Larger ponds up to 16 x 16 should use 75 snails.

How Do Trapdoor Snails Eat? Trapdoor snails have a rough tongue called a radula. These tongues are very course and have small rows of teeth designed for scraping algae and other vegetation off anything they crawl across. This radula grinds food almost like a fine cheese grader making digestion very easy.

How Do Trapdoor Snails Move? All snails move by contracting muscles in a flat foot underneth their shells. These strong little muscles create a rippling movement that pushes them along on any given path.

How Do Trapdoor Snails Breath? They breath through gills like fish do. These gills extract oxygen from your water garden allowing these snails to thrive totaly under water.
